After they crossed the border, Ugandan officials rounded them up, packed them onto trucks, took them to remote regions, and dumped them" (Kinzer, 11-12).

During his first years in school, in Uganda, in the middle of nowhere and under circumstances closer to the prehistoric world, Kagame follows the path of many others who see in education the only way to escape camps and return to their homelands together with their families. "He applied himself single-mindedly to his studies and was so successful that in his final year of primary school, he won the highest grades of any student in the district. This was no easy feat. There were many Rwandan students there, and nearly everyone has been sent to school with the same challenge: study hard, because your generation must find a way to end our exile" (Kinzer, 14). He manages to be the first among them and to detach already from the mass. But his first years of academic successes are followed by a loss of interest in scholarly activities and Kinzer tells the story of a young man who is starting to meet people who will change the course of his life and the destiny of his country, writes Kinzer.

The last chapters of the book are describing a poor country with a possible great future that is not completely free of the danger of violence and revengeful acts that could grow big again overnight.

While some facts presented by Kinzer in the biography of Kagame are beyond any doubt, some others are to be treated with a cetain distance of objectivism. A book review, written by the former U.S. ambassador in Rwanda between 1995 and 1999, Robert E. Gribbin, is praising the undeniable qualities of the book and its intrinsic value and importance to those who want to better understand Rwanda and its people, but he is also raising some questions regarding the reliability of some of the sources. At some point, the former U.S. ambassador is even expressing his doubts in matters related to Kinzer's assumptions regarding Rwanda's intervention in Zair and the role Kagame plaid during the first years at the leadership of the Rwandan Patriotic Army.

Concluding on his presentation of the enormous power Rwanda plaid as a magnet for different kinds of international organizations, foreign investors, politicians and religious entities, Kinzer concludes: "Impressive as this network is, it has not yet produced great tangible benefits for Rwanda. None of the American companies Kagame so assiduously cultivates has made a major investment. Christian-oriented development campaigns like the one Rick Warren envisions are just beginning. If Rwanda's friends match their admirations with deeds, they can contribute decisively to its future" (Kinzer, 310).....
