Amazingly, all of the movies mentioned above ranked in the top ten at the box office. Batman was the most financially lucrative with a number one box-office rating and a total gross of just over $251 million followed by Batman Returns with a number two box-office rating and a total gross of nearly $163 million. Ed Wood was the least successful and came in at number nine at the box office and grossed about $5.8 million (Tim Burton FAQ).

In 2001, Burton's Planet of the Apes was panned by the critics, leaving some to question if Burton had lost his luster. (Andac). About the same time as Planet of the Apes, both of Burton's parents died within a short space of time (Jackson and McDermott, 2004). In 2003, he bounced back with Big Fish, a story of a man trying to reconnect with his dying father.
This was one of Burton's most personal and emotional films in years and earned critical and box-office acceptance. Now, Burton's forthcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, an adaptation of Dahl's novel, as well as the Corpse Bride, a comedy about a man mistakenly wedding a corpse, are expected to be big blockbusters.

With his now decades of continued success, few can disagree that Burton is one of the greatest directors and produces of all time. Burton may not be as critically acclaimed as some other directors and he's certainly.
