Politics of Reflexive Governance: Challenges for Designing Adaptive Management and Transition Management" by Voss and Bornemann (2011), really demonstrates a comprehensive, though somewhat unimaginative perspective on the pillars of adaptive governance. One of the savvier aspects of this article is that it is able to take into account is the necessity of a concept of governance which includes uncertainty and societal change. Few concepts of governance make allowances for the fact that the future will bring things that cannot be anticipated or sometimes even prevented. Another strong aspect of this article is the fact that it pushed for flexibility and reflexivity in terms of the boundaries of prognostic knowledge and real control. In this manner, the authors attribute adaptive and transition management as originating from social -- ecological and sociotechnical systems, as both focus on the experimentative aspect of learning. The authors ultimately are able to demonstrate that these methods focus on a focal-centered process of problem-solving. Thus, there are two pillars given for integrating politics into the framework of reflexive governance: "recognize the politics of learning for sustainable development and develop safeguards against domination and capture by powerful actors, and (2) systematically consider the embedding of governance designs in political contexts and their ongoing dynamics for political fit" (Voss and Bornemann, 2011). These pillars demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the adaptive governance process in general.

Likewise, the article, "Navigating Change: Hawaii's Approach to Adaptation" is a concise and intelligent presentation of facts regarding the vulnerabilities and unique needs of Hawaii. This article was able to demonstrate a strong and specific comprehension of the direction that Hawaii needs to go in, and how it can evolve in the future in the most beneficial manner for the company at large. For instance, the article highlights one of the overwhelming vulnerabilities of Hawaii: it is largely dependent on freshwater for survival: this is an issue which absolutely should not be underestimated in its importance: "Rainfall and stream flows are declining.

On the other hand, the article "Collaborative Governance and Adaptive Management" by Kallis and colleagues (2009) represents a far too theoretical approach on the issue of adaptive management as a whole. Namely, this article looks at the phenomenon of the California water systems, which it refers to as one of the most observed systems in the world. The article examines the work of CALFED and describes how it is an ambitious experiment in collaborative environmental policy and adaptive management. The article examines how collaborative management can better breed innovation, but it would be a much stronger piece if it was able to examine specific examples in conjunction with the theories and ideas that it presents. However, the authors do aptly point out that this form of collaboration can't always fix issues which abound in terms of distributive dilemmas.
