Virtual Organizations Portal

In any functional organization, many events take place. Some of these events are significant to the organization, while the others are not of much importance because they do not influence the organization in any way. One of the events that can be labeled as critical for any organization is the violation of the ethics or code of conduct of any firm or organization. The things that are effected by such critical events include the interpersonal communication ethics, communication during conflict, perceptions of power, communication climate and intercultural and diversity conflict. In this paper we shall discuss how violation of ethics is important for an organization pertaining to the violation of ethics.

Introduction

All the organizations have an ethical code that is adopted by them to help their members differentiate between what is right and what is wrong and then make use of this understanding in decision making. Generally, the ethical code is presented at three levels; codes of conduct of employees, codes of professional practice and codes of business ethics. In this particular paper, we shall talk about effects of violation of the third level of the ethical code on the organization.

Business ethics and their violation

The main focus of the code of business ethics are social issues. General rule are set out pertaining to the beliefs of the organization on subjects that include privacy, quality, mission or environment (Ladd, 1991). This code of ethics may or may not have the legitimate procedures that would be required to determine whether violation of the code of ethics has taken place or not. Moreover, it might also contain the remedies that need to be implemented in the case of a violation of these ethics.

These remedies may include the restraint of the violator to participate in any trade activities on moral grounds. The code of conduct for the employees has a direct relationship and origin with the code of business ethics. Fundamentally, the code of business ethics focuses on moral beliefs of the owners and management of the business towards the members of this business.

The interchange of ideas with the use of a variety of methods that include words, facial expression, gestures, and body posture and voice tone is termed as interpersonal communication. These skills are important to an organization because it ensures operational efficiency and assists teamwork. However, when the code of ethics is violated in an organization, this communication suffers. Since it is the key to the business efficiency in almost all functions including selling, training and managing the organization, the functions of an organization are prone to collapse when the code of ethics is violated and interpersonal communication effected as a result (Cross, 2013).
