Conclusion

In conclusion, this report focused on the frontline battlefield experiences of both American and Japanese soldiers as depicted in the semibiographical but fictional work "The Naked and the Dead" by Norman Mailer and the autobiographical account of World War II experienced by Ooka Shohei in the "Fires on the Plain." Each of these books can be considered a war classic because they each provide insights into the individual lives of soldiers on the frontlines. But deeper than that, these works give reasons that war can be considered as hell. Both books are classics in their respective countries because they give a unique perspective that delivers us right on to the frontlines of the Pacific Realm.
I feel I have a better understanding of both winning and losing a war because these works show both sides of the story. The real side of the story is there is no winner. Both sides lose. Just because the United States forces won this particular war, tragedies did not distinguish between the Japanese and the Americans......
