Wedgwood was no ordinary entrepreneur. During his lifetime, he made use of anything and everything that could help him advance swiftly and produce faster. This included the use of the steam engine. He also used power machinery and applied more exact controls over the entire fire process. He was quick to apply the division of labor principle, which helped him produce quickly and with more precision. Wedgwood introduced a much greater division of labor than had been common in the potteries before, and he also was the first to introduce power machinery and more exact controls over the firing process.
