9. Bauman is talking to all humans and is asking us to take stock of our attitude and human togetherness, he calls them emancipation, individuality, time/space, work and community -- all need to change.

In deference to Roger Von Oech (Whack on the Side of the Head), Bauman is asking us to take a different look and approach to the ideas of consumerism in postmodern society / a shift took place that altered society from producers to consumers, and tradeoffs were made; security was given up to enjoy more freedom to purchase and consume. His works are difficult and the concepts a bit amorphous, but the general idea is to get back in touch with the human side of being human -- to use technology not to hide from the world, but to engage with the world. Instead of our children spending hours playing video games, have them engage in play with other children; as adults, instead of HBO 7-nights a week, join a bowling league, a book club, a discussion group, etc.
