For workplace leaders, these results are significant. First, it highlights the importance of making all employees feel involved in planning and organizing a project. This gives employees a sense of ownership and control over the process and the result. Fostering a sense of control over the result and the orientation of an effort increases levels of persistence and motivation to succeed. Micromanaging employees can have the opposite effect. Secondly, optimism about success was strongly correlated with persistence and continued motivation.
The results of the article thus confirms the idea that management is a participatory process, and that leaders must not simply dictate, which takes away the individual's sense of empowerment, rather leaders must listen and strive to learn from others. They should ideally approach their task with the expectation that it will succeed, and their employees will shine.
