This, in effect, makes "TSL" an effective form of light entertainment and not as a reality show meant to illustrate real life per se.

Of course, despite its being an alternative form of a reality program geared at entertaining viewers, "TSL" is also criticized for its false claim of not delivering the claim that it does show the 'simple life' as enacted in real life. Hence, the show and its actors claims to be what it is not: a reality show that instead illustrates the lead actors' illusion of a life where people tolerate their actions and behavior, and can get money from other people and get away with it (with the people consciously thinking that they are rich anyway, and can replace the money Richie and Hilton asked from them) ("Heir heads," 2004).


Despite its unreal demonstration of real life, thoughtful viewers can somehow generate insights that more or less provide a description of the simple life as "TSL" conceptualizes it. That is, a life where rural life is shown based on Richie and Hilton's perspective: a life full of hard work and people that have conservative values, a culture that make up the 'simple life' Richie and Hilton cannot possibly tolerate and live and real life......
