One of the most serious of these concerns is the affect that radio waves have an essential medical apparatus, such as pacemakers. This could pose a significant health risk and is often cited as a negative factor by those opposed to cell phones.

While one of the advantages of cellular phones is the ability to use the Internet, yet this also has a downside in that there has been a dramatic and serious increase in spam mail - which can be directly related to the large number of cellular phones. Another related problem which is becoming prevalent in Japan as a result of cellular phone usage is an increase in antisocial behavior patterns. In many cases the use of cellular phones are becoming socially unacceptable due to uncaring and impolite behavior and etiquette, which is counter to social traditions and norms in Japan. This has resulted in recommendations from the authorities that cellular phones should not be used on trains or around seats reserved for the elderly and handicapped.


The use of digital cameras in cellular phones has proved to be more of a social irritation however. This has developed into a serious problem with legal and copyright implications.

This is occurring in Japan as well as other parts of the world. This activity, known as digital shoplifting, occurs when cellular phone users take illegal snapshots of magazines and books.

Cellular phones have become the communication device of choice in Japan and elsewhere in the world. These devices are improving each today and acquiring new technological enhancements. On the negative side there are various social, legal and health issues that will have to be dealt with in Japan and in many other counties before cellular phones become safe and acceptable to everyone......
