Nursing and Professional Nursing OrganizationsSome people may look at nursing as an occupation—but it is really best considered as a profession. It requires education and commitment and thus ticks off the top boxes for professionalism. Nurses have to be academically prepared before they show up on the job. Some training may occur while on the job, yes, but far and away the bulk of training occurs in the classroom. Further evidence of this fact can be seen in the wide array of professional nursing organizations. I am a member of Hackensack Meridian Health, which is a network of providers that offer their professional services to patients. Our professionalism is evident in our network and what we provide.Some of the top characteristics of professional nursing organizations include access to professional development, chances to network, ethic standards, and advocacy (Nilsen, 2020). All of these characteristics are evident in Hackensack Meridian Health. As a comprehensive healthcare network, it offers numerous opportunities for professional growth and development, including support for continuing education, specialized training, workshops, and seminars that are typical benefits of membership in a PNO. These opportunities allow professionals to stay up-to-date with the latest in healthcare practices, technologies, and research (Isidori et al., 2022).
