Wiki Evaluation

The relevance of the online collaboration cannot be overstated, especially when it comes to collaborative learning and knowledge sharing. Thanks to numerous contributors, I learnt that online collaboration is one of the most efficient ways of growing individual users' knowledge base around specific subject areas. Online collaboration also creates an environment where we can learn better by providing support to each other via the peer editing tool. To make online collaboration even better, I would create or further enhance the role of editor/moderator in an attempt to ensure that all the posts made fit not only the format but also the goal of the online collaboration effort.

Thanks to the online collaboration, I have appreciated the need for social-based tools in an organizational setting. In such settings, online collaboration would provide a very efficient system for the creation, organization, as well as revision of content. Indeed, Christakis and Fowler (2009) point out that online social platforms could be viewed as placeholders for content. This effectively means that through the said collaborations, employees can not only find solutions to pressing issues, but also further enhance their knowledge base regarding specific areas -- i.e. professional standards in a specified field.
The said sharing of knowledge effectively raises the intelligence level of organizations. An example of real life application in an organizational setting: given the technical nature if IT (i.e. with regard to the use of specific software) most employees may need to have their knowledge base in a specified information technology area or topic enhanced. Wikis would be a handy tool in this endeavor. Wikis, according to Wagner and Majchrzac (as cited in Topi and Tucker, 2014) could also be used to interact with vendors, customers, as well as partners. In the words of Jenkins, Ford, and Green (2013, p. 279), "Web 2.0 is a business model through which commercial platforms seek to court and capture the participatory energies of desired markets ... "
