The company may or may not have been hiring ethnically diverse individuals or ex-convicts but that is the company's prerogative. Oftentimes this situation is exaggerated when other employees believe that they are 'better'. One expert recently espoused "practice issues concerning multiculturism and the role of ethnicity in patterns of oppression have revealed that current interpretations and applications of the principle of respect for human diversity often result in self contradictions and conflicts" (Goldberg, 2000, p. 13).

However, the manner in which the company presents itself is a very important component in this case. The employee obviously is getting is information (skewed or not) from somewhere.
