He remembers this fondly, even in the midst of so many other memories and recollections from Turkey.

See, the country has a long and provocative history. Levon explains that Turkey is the home of some of the world's oldest cultures and societies; how the spark of civilization began early in such a great land. In the Middle Ages, Turkey was consumed by war and bloodshed, with invasions from barbarian tribes such as the Mongols. Next came the Ottoman Empire which ruled the region for over 600 years. Levon remembers his grandfather's stories about the chaos which ensued during World War II and the peace which came after with an American promise to protect both Turkey and its neighbor Greece. Long after the stories of invasions and barbarians, Turkey is now a democratic nation with a large and representative parliament. The government and regulatory bodies are not that much different than what is seen here in the United States. Although it has a parliament and a Prime Minister, the country has open and democratic votes to all citizens. Other aspects of life are similar including what Levon understands of American police. He does admit that there are much more branches and departments of the American government which cover everything from education to agriculture and conservation.

Levon takes great pride in explaining the history of his people. There is so much time, so much history, that one can't help but be proud to still represent it even today. Each time he explained of an era, the strength and length of its reign was what was so strongly emphasized. One of his favorite cities in Turkey is Istanbul, for it is here that he says you can see the centuries of history in such vivid detail. It is here that East meets West, and that thousands of years of culture have flourished and collaborated with other cultures.

It is because of such pride and history that Levon will never completely forget his Turkish heritage. He does want to enjoy life assimilated here in America, but will never forget his home and his people. He plans to go visit his family in Turkey within the next six months, and they have come to visit him and his extended family several times since his move to Nashville. He will never forget his country and his homeland. It is a source of great pride and happiness for him to remember, and be constantly reminded through his friends and family out here in the United States as….....
