Everyone wants to save money. Yet many of us are wasting money without even realizing it. When you leave the room, do you get any additional pleasure from leaving the light on while you are gone? Do you enjoy having your computer running in your absence? Probably these decisions make little difference to you, and you would prefer to save money rather than needlessly waste power. Bad habits and thoughtlessness are often the source of how and why we waste energy. This speech will provide you with suggestions about how to save energy, demonstrate how it is financially advantageous to 'go green,' and suggest future lifestyle changes to save energy.

Making small changes can save energy, with almost no additional inconvenience. As well as turning off the light when you leave the room, plugging all electronics into power strips makes it easy to turn off all the computers, televisions, and other electronics in the room and prevent them from drawing 'vampire power' when in "stand-by mode" (Orloff 2013).

Switching to energy-efficient light bulbs costs only pennies more and reduces your expenditures of energy even when the light is on. Careful planning can also save energy. Doing large rather than small loads of wash reduces the total energy used to run the washing machine ever week. Washing in cold rather than warm or hot water (unless absolutely necessary) uses less energy and results in less wear and tear upon clothes (Orloff 2013).
