Composite Intelligence -- . 94 (KAIT, 2005)

Adequacy of reliability evidence to support potential uses of the test

Because KAIT de-emphasizes response speed and motor proficiency in scoring this makes it especially useful when testing the elderly or other groups where measuring cognitive functioning separately from psychomotor ability is important. (as opposed, for example, young children where psychomotor ability has a higher correlation to intelligence)

Validity

Composite IQs on the KAIT demonstrate high construct validity with tests such as WISC-R, WAIS-R, and K-ABC. The adequacy of validity evidence to support potential uses of the test, according to the two-factor structure "analyses with the WAIS-R and WISC-R (N = 461) indicate that the KAIT Crystallized and Wechsler Verbal scales are similar (r =.81) but the KAIT Fluid and Wechsler Performance scales represent distinct factors (r =.70). The KAIT Composite IQ correlates highly with the Wechsler FSIQ (.84) and the Stanford-Binet (4th Edition) Composite (.87). The manual reports KAIT profiles for clinical samples including neurologically impaired (left vs. right), clinically depressed, reading disabled, and Alzheimer's-type dementia." (KAIT, 2005)

Summary, Evaluation and Critique

KAIT provides an alternative reading of intelligence, assessing what one does with one's intelligence, if the form of crystallized as well as fluid intelligence. It is especially useful for testing adults, and has shown strong cross-cultural reliability. (Flanagan &.....
