Interpersonal Communication: A Plan for Growth

Developmental Analysis

Introduction

Hello. My name is XYZ, and I am presenting today my interpersonal communication plan, which will demonstrate the course-related knowledge with a commitment to developing and maintaining healthy, healing, and helping relationships. With effective communication, I will express my ability to compose and deliver a message effectually. The main points of my presentation are:

· An overarching life or career goal and the role of interpersonal communication in line.

· Behavioral blend along with my background and identity and challenges/opportunities I have faced as a communicator

· Communication barriers I have faced throughout this course and their effect on my relations

· Strategies that I feel might help remove those barriers

· Action plan for implementation of those strategies

Overarching Goal

· To become a motivational speaker or teaching.

· Both of these involve speaking in crowds, and this is the area I want to enhance my communication skills.

My overarching goal of life or career goal is to become an energetic, motivational speaker or to become a professor. This goal is essential to me as I have been very good at speaking in crowds since I was very young, as I did not feel restricted in expressing my thoughts. There are times when I might want to hold back my feelings, especially when there is someone close standing in the crowd so that I should not hurt his feelings, but still, I manage to deliver the overall central idea of the conversation. I feel I have influential “people” skills, and I can interact and influence them. The reason for the impression that I can change people is that I am cautious in selecting my words so that I do not upset them. Instead, I try my best to comfort them by being warm through my communication style. Besides, I like to research and prepare before I engage in any conversation, which is a great advantage if I become a professor. I am also a problem solver to support and inspire others.

Behavioral Blend and Background

· Communication style involves being inspiring and submissive

· Sometimes shy but comfortable speaking in large groups
· A crowd-pleaser and a loyal friend

· Very emotional and show concern for others openly and privately

My background and identity make me both motivating and passive since I might be friendly and enthusiastic in my conversation, but I lack assertiveness.
As I mentioned above, I try to keep some feelings to myself so that the other person should not feel offended. I do not like to have conflict, and I overthink before saying something. I try to avoid making others unhappy, and for that,…

Action Plan

· GPA theory: “Action”- explicitness, dominance, argument and control over outcomes

· Attempt to negotiate

By making use of the “action” part of the GPA theory of interpersonal communication, I can focus on four dimensions and inculcate them into my action plan for implementing resources and strategies. If I try to be as explicit as possible, it would be beneficial for me to utter a clear message to others, and it would be easier for them to understand. I will try to be less dominant since that is the type of personality I have. I do not want to hurt other people’s sentiments and evade conflict. I will try maximum argument but with positive justification to avoid implanting negative thoughts into other participant’s minds about me. I will try to be less controlling; hence, this dimension might be less in my conversation, but I will be as persuasive as possible. Consequently, I will try to create circumstances of negotiation where both participants have a win-win situation.

Conclusion

I can work well with people since I can get along with them quickly. I can be passively aggressive. I am not very demanding and don’t feel the need to be dominant. I want to conclude with a quote from Anthony Robbins,….....
