in the success and profitability of a business in relation to its supply chain management is logistics management. Logistics incorporates the flow of raw materials and information throughout supply chain processes of an organization. In the past few decades, logistics management has gained significant attention because of the emergence of new technologies and strategic alliances that are geared towards enhancing an organization's competitive advantage. For global companies like Mcdonalds Corporation, logistics management is vital for gaining access to new markets, taking advantage of technological competencies for overseas operations, and enhancing production efficiencies. This paper examines the importance of effective logistics management with regards to smoothing material… Continue Reading...
corporations sustainable competitive edges over rivals, owing to the fact that good logistics management increases client satisfaction, lowers costs and maintains delivery quality.
The military domain can be considered as a frontrunner in logistics process implementation. After all, the word "logistics" first began to be used extensively in military circles. Researchers usually hold that logistics studies emerged from war-time needs including the need for transporting soldiers, rations and equipment to battlegrounds. Military literature beginning from the 19th-century U.S. Civil War depicts the word "logistics" being used specifically (Rutner et al., 2012). The Evolution of Supply Chain Management
The field of logistics management was focused on controlling the flow of materials, in-process inventory and finished goods through a company's system from the time that it enters the system until the time that it leaves the system (Cooper, Lambert & Pagh, 1997). As the field became more strategic in nature, it came to encompass other issues, such as sourcing materials and building in redundancy (Cooper & Ellram,1993). subset and portion of wider supply chain management. To be more specific, logistics management is the process of integrating the movement and maintenance of goods in of or out of the organization. On the other hand, supply chain management is the coordination and management of supply chain activities. The objective with logistics is customer satisfaction while it is competitive advantage when it comes to supply chain management. There is only one organization affected when it comes to logistics while supply chain management affects multiple organizations. Problem solving is one of the core components of logistics management. In the warehouse setting, innumerable challenges arise on a daily basis. The internship illustrated “strategies for better preparedness and the need for supply chains to be agile, adaptable and aligned,” (Van Wassenhove, 2005, p. 475). Creative problem solving was used at several key junctures, during which we needed to mobilize material assets in strategic ways. Moreover, one of the learning objectives was to function as the material floor manager at the warehouse. The 360 degree evaluation highlighted that this competency had been achieved.
While self-confidence grew with each… Continue Reading...
