This is most often the case for workers in marginal jobs, who only receive technical training on a limited aspect of the implemented system, and not a more thorough education that they could use on future positions and technology later in their career. Finally, there are Mixed Effects positions. This occurs when automated systems or robots are implemented, deskilling workers on the process of production, yet it forces an upgrade of skills in order to maintain and service such complicated machinery. Such positions often require a much more technical background, and are not common in marginal positions, as companies will often look to third parties to maintain and service complicated machinery.

There are unique roles for the employer, customer, and worker within service interactions. Employers essentially establish the criteria and standards for which the employers are supposed to work within, as well as training employees on how to handle service interactions all together.
Employers also are responsible for maintaining a certain degree of conformity in service interactions across the organization. Secondly, the customer also plays a role, often by setting the demands that the employer constructed standards are set around. Finally, the worker plays a major role, as the position is essentially the face of the company. It is the worker's role to make sure the customer is happy with the experience within the limits set by the employer. Emotional work regards the type of work a worker does to satisfy the well being of the customer. And can often take a toll on the worker which would result in a burn out.
