Media Coverage on Citizens' Understanding of the "Anti-Globalization" Movement

Media is a feature that is always with the people. The media has played a critical part in the shaping of almost everything in the world. The media has been a channel that has been used to get information to the recipient's right from the sources. The developments in the world have been advanced because of the presence of the media, which is a tool of the trade for almost every entity in the world. In fact, one sure way to access information and transmit it to the people is by use of the media. The media is significant in that it has the power to elevate downturn, influence, install, and initiate everything at any given time. One factor that has affected the world because of the media is the anti-globalization movement. Like any other movement, anti-globalization movement has been in the world since the early 17th century, and has transformed the lives of many people, thanks to the presence of the media, which has acted as a source of power and a mechanism of change. As such, this research paper has endeavored to explore on the role that has been played by the media coverage in giving citizens a good understanding of the anti-globalization movement (Fernandez, 2008).

I believe that the coverage by the media has enabled citizens to understand the anti-globalization movement in the best way possible. The media coverage has lifted the understanding of the citizens in the exact concept of anti-globalization movement amidst globalization in the world. The media has become a tool used to spread any form of information, right or false, as regards everything that happens to take place in the world (Rodrik, 2012). Nonetheless, the presence of the media is yet again a boost towards enabling the citizens to be at the limelight, accessing information that has been encoded, and managing to derive meaning and even take conclusions and decisions as regards the same. With the presence of the media coverage, much of the concept of globalization has been revealed, with evidence engraved on the possibility of having to deal with the misunderstanding brought by the same channel to the people. For instance, the social media would regard globalization as an occurrence geared to bringing the world to the feet of science, research and innovation, and the creation of systems of management and control within every paradigm of human interaction. On the other hand, anti-globalization movement refers to the stakes that have been taken by the people as concerns the aims of globalization, and hence creating some form of a refusal or denial over what globalization has been intended to bring to the people. With the media coverage always having something to say, the people have access a great opportunity to analyze and know the real intentions of globalization and hence what lies behind the anti-globalization movement (Peet, 2003).

Media coverage is almost everywhere around the globe boosted by the thundering technology that has taken the world to greater heights of innovation and science. With the media in place, it has become easy for people to access every kind of information based on the different aspects of the coverage taken by people. For instance, some media coverage has perceived or brought out the intended aim of globalization as something pursued to transform the world. Globalization is a universal thing that has its mainstreams on the global scene, and hence requires people to have a universal understating and perception. The aims of the creation of globalization is a universal thing and hence it has always become a challenge for many people to see any positive thing in it, as some have had the challenge to perceive any negativity about it (Rodrik, 2012). Nonetheless, with the diversification of coverage delivered by the media, people have managed to access what is the universal truth as relates the positives and the negatives brought by the globalization, hence creation of the anti-globalization movement. The movement can cause changes or convert the positives brought by the globalization and make them have a negative effect on the people (Stiglitz, 2007). With the coverage of the media, much of the do's and don't's of globalization have been revealed. What is essentially important is that people have developed a magnitude of perception that enables them to have a secondary and rational thought about the entire concept of globalization before advocating for the presence and purposes of the anti-globalization movement.

The people who value globalization will always work in a way that they are advocating for globalization, terming it as a change that the world needs to access transformation, uniformity, and equality in the world, together with a unified globe managed from a central point and directed to serve the world. In contrast, those who are against globalization are the advocates of the anti-globalization movement, and always have their reasons for the same. For instance, they perceive globalization as something like a scheme set to bring in issues of exploitation, corporate capitalism, discrimination, segregation, and many other aspects of human inequality. Thus, they will always pursue the need for independence and some form of sovereignty in the management of the separate resources in the world. The attributes of sharing and having a one-system world will not interest everyone, as it appears to force certain elements and parties to try out unfavorable survival tactics (Stiglitz, 2007. With the present media coverage, such issues have surfaced and hence have generated the need for some groups of people to be on the verge of forming and pursuing the presence of anti-globalization movement). Therefore, it is imperative to say that the media coverage has created some form of in-depth understanding that is very useful when it comes to accessing a rational point-of-view of the entire concepts of globalization and anti-globalization movement (Buckman, 2004).

The interests of globalization are not very clear in most of the media coverage, and even among the stakeholders who hold much truth when it comes to the management of many things in the world. For instance, some would say that the interests of the stakeholders who want globalization is found on their guest to have a control of the world regarding resources, human freedom and leadership, control of power, and may other variables that determine human greatness and acceptance to be led (Stiglitz, 2007). Others perceive globalization as a weapon of change that will transform some parts of the world, albeit those that have not achieved certain levels of development, to be better regarding development and growth. The immediate interests of globalization are some of the things that have never been seen as positive among many people, hence calling for the establishment and working of the anti-globalization movement (Fernandez, 2008). The interests of the anti-globalization movement are based on the wrongs that have been committed in the presence of globalization in the world today.

Without globalization, it is certain that much of the reputation of the world would have been based on the inherent virtues that try to be synonymous with the factors of individual growth and development. Some media coverage perceives this as a way of managing what is critically imperative to the understanding of what the world needs and what can be done to make the world a better place regarding business, innovation, and advancement. With massive media coverage, it has become clear that the interests of globalization and those of the anti-globalization movement are divergent and hence calling for the heated debates that will never end concerning the two features in play among the societies (Peet, 2003).

The emergence of globalization pioneered anti-globalization movements which are almost everywhere in the world today. With globalization, it is possible to have certain measures of performances linked to the people, and apparently that make people not to be in a good mood towards having perceptions of change and growth. The anti-globalization movement is yet to gain an advantage because globalization is considered as success associated with the present advancements in the world. Media coverage has brought such issues into the lives and concerns of the people by making everything to have its stands like those who value globalization and those against it (Rodrik, 2012). This influences others in their pursuits of their anti-globalization interests. With media coverage, it has become clear that the intentions of each of these movements are rather divergent and will never appear to have a reasoning that will lead to one conclusion and decision. People can have such perceptions with the development of the anti-globalization movement amidst the human run towards globalization. With enormous media coverage in this issue, it has become possible to have a glimpse of what is to happen in the world of globalization and the rising cases of the anti-globalization movement in the world today (Peet, 2003).
