Military Veteran Hiring Situation -- My Testimony

A military veteran entering into civilian life can face tough challenges, especially when it comes to finding a suitable, well-paying job in today's American economy. But I have been blessed to find a good job, and I am extremely grateful to ITA International for the opportunity they have provided for me.

After serving my country for ten years in the United States Army, it was very important for me to find a civilian job in Virginia. Not just any job, but a job that would allow me to use my career training as a project manager.

Indeed, it was my good fortune to come into contact with ITA International in February 2016, an equal opportunity company in Virginia that reaches out to military veterans. Through online sources (Linked-In), I located the ITA International recruiter, and supplied my resume.

The ITA International recruiter contacted me shortly, and she arranged for an interview with the manager who does the hiring for ITA International. The interview went very well, and I believe that because I had earlier in my career earned a master's degree in project management, I was given solid consideration for a position in that field.

In fact, not long after the interview I was contacted by the hiring manager and offered the job. These have been wonderful, satisfying moments in my post-Army career, for several reasons.

For one, even though I served in the Army as a senior human resource specialist, I had long hoped to be placed in a position that allowed me to use the skills I have developed in the field of project management.

For another reason, project management is a male-dominated field, and as a woman, even though I can provide the aptitude and skills that are up there with the best, I had to prove my worth. I believe I have done that in a thorough and professional way on the job here at the Norfolk Naval Base.

During those ten years in the Army, I saw a lot of places and a lot of people on this big planet, and over and over again I came to the realization that we are blessed to be citizens of the United States.

I served the Army in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Campbell in Tennessee, Fort Stewart in Georgia, and in Bosnia and Korea.….....
