RECIPE WRITING

For many years, recipes have been handed down through generations, so that the great cooking of beloved family members can be preserved and shared throughout time. We come to anticipate certain dishes on holidays and others on special occasions through the year based, on these recipes. In addition, we find new and tasty recipes every day online, at a friend's, in a magazine and in cookbooks. Perhaps the most exciting recipe, however, is the one that is recently invented. One who cooks up a new dish that has not been tried creates a recipe never before seen. The recipe can be written down and then entered into the record books of recipes and someday a hundred years from now, that same dish may be a family favorite somewhere. For the recipe to withstand this type of future and scrutiny, it is important that the recipe is written in clear concise fashion and that its elements are all very clear.

When one writes a recipe, there are three very important components involved. One must be sure to include the ingredients, the preparation, and the number of people that it will serve. The ingredients are a very important part of writing a recipe. Often times we will find a recipe we want to try, in a magazine or a book and when we put it together it does not work. When the problem is researched it is discovered that one or more ingredients was left out of the recipe, or the quantities were mistyped which caused the final dish to fail. To avoid this from happening when one writes a recipe, one must list all ingredients that are needed to prepare the dish, including things such as oil for the pan .

Once all of the ingredients are listed it is important to double check and be sure that the correct measuring quantities are used. This prevents things like too much or two little of an ingredient being used, which can ruin the final product. For instance, all of the dry mixing ingredients can be written together and the entire wet ones next. This allows for simplification and a better understanding of the process.

After the ingredients are decided upon and listed, the next step is to discuss the preparation. This is where one places any pre-preparation instructions as well, such as preheating the oven to a certain temperature.
