Pilot Study of Uncontrolled Diabetics

In the treatment of diabetic cases, the HgA1C test is administered to determine the patient's glucose level. The test is used to assess the glucose level in the patient's blood after ingesting glucose or after hours of fasting. The test after ingestion is called the oral glucose tolerance test while the test after fasting is referred to as the fasting glucose test. This measures used in this test has recently been approved as a more accurate test allowing medics to articulate the ideal long-term measures to manage the ailment in patients. This paper reviews studies conducted to assess the impact of diabetes self-management program in a free care clinic on patients HgA1C.

The key to management and reduce fatality cases among type 2 diabetes patients is by providing self-care education and learning the material to the patients. This assertion was made in the study by (Gamboa Moreno et al., 2013) carried out to assess the effectiveness of self-care programs for patients with type 2 diabetes. The study observed that type 2 diabetes is highly prevalent with the patients facing significantly high potential morbidity and mortality. The study by (Gamboa Moreno et al., 2013) observed that there is high risk associated with type 2 diabetes calls for a refocusing of the treatment measures to patients. The study proposes that additional to the clinical care afforded to patients, the patient self-care measure will contribute to reducing the ailments adverse effects. The study hypothesized that an education program targeting to offer a lesson to patients on self-care will facilitate in the reduction of HbA1c levels by upwards of 0.5% compared to clinical health education.

The study proposes to use a randomly selected sample from four regions engaging a total of 556 type two (2) diabetic patients ages between years 18 and 79. The key outcome of the study will change in the levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (HgA1C). Other measures of outcome in the study will be the overall health attributes of the patient.

In an effort to determine how a self-management community-based diabetes program influences some diabetes metabolic factors among patients (Johnson, Ruisinger, Vink, & Barnes, 2014) undertook a study. The study assesses how pharmacist-led self-management program impacted on diabetes patient's glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) for employee health program participants. The study sought to identify the changes realized from the pharmacist-led self-management program on patients in a firm that provided insurance for their employees. For the purposes of the study 65 participants were selected to feed the required data information. It was the study findings that among those employees participating in the pharmacist-led self-management program, significant improvement are observable. Among the diabetes metabolic aspects measured Mean HbA1c, Mean LDL-C and Mean MAP for the participating employees showed statistically significant decreases. The study asserted from the findings that diabetic self-management programs facilitated significant health improvement for employees in the organization thereby reducing the treatment cost expenses (Johnson et al., 2014).
