skills gap really exist .there are many young adults who lack the required skills and ethics for the jobs that are available. The challenge of the forgotten half has increased due to the increased importance of the post secondary education for the success of the labor market. The forgotten half are threatened and are warned that they might be caught up in a bind that will deny them being part of the society.as a young person I would not like to be caught up in this mess. Therefore I will ensure that I am not part of this forgotten half in that I will ensure that I successfully go through my education so that I can become a useful member of the society. With an increasingly demanding labor market I would also want to be relevant within the labor industry. Therefore I will ensure that I go for a profession that is in high demand and hence reduce the skills gap that exists within the society. Something has to be done by me and other people who are termed as the forgotten half in order to have a better society in future.

2. Why our current system fails so many youth

It is clear that a high school diploma alone in America is not enough for middle class life.as a matter of fact many of the young people drop out of high school and even a larger number do not go to college or universities. The problem with is that the systems have not evolved in a manner that will help young adults in this world which is radically different.

it is the common assumption and belief that the four-year college route is the only acceptable path to success. The solution lies in the development of a robust pathway of systems .for instance if the high school career focused pathway were closely interconnected with community college and four-year majors then there would be a more likelihood of students staying in the course. Furthermore students should be given better guidance in order for them to continue with their education and understand its benefits.

3. Lessons from Abroad

Vocational education and training has really assisted in making the transition between adolescence to productive adulthood. This system is quite helpful since it combines classroom and workplace learning.at the end of a period of three years one gets a certificate or diploma in a specific field or basically a qualification which is what is valuable in the labor market. The vocational education also acts as a pathway into tertiary education for those who are interested in continuing with this.at the end of this vocational education one has a qualification that is roughly equivalent to Americans who have earned a technical degree in community college. Nations that offer such robust pathways to careers have superior attainment. This clearly shows that such robust systems are the way to go.
