Hypertargeting through social networks like Facebook is an important part of the new way of advertising. What is so different in the Facebook age of marketing is that through Facebook people end up sharing a lot of demographic information about themselves, as well as "psychographic information" (Shih 83). Shih (83) notes that it is considered normal to share your birthday, your religion, your hobbies, your political views, and even your relationship status.
