TECHNOLOGIES USED IN MANUFACTURINGTechnologies Used in ManufacturingThere are various technologies used in manufacturing. One such technology, according to XXXX () happens to be computer-aided design (CAD). In the words of the authors, CAD could be conceptualized as “an approach to product and process design that utilizes the power of the computer” (XXXX, p. 188). CAD has been deployed in multiple scenarios. XXXX () indicates that this technology could be deployed in simple design and manufacturing process or complex undertakings. For instance, the technology is actively used in custom swimsuits design. One of the key advantages of CAD happens to be that it helps in the achievement of better quality design. This is more so the case given that CAD systems have the relevant tools and features to not only minimize error, but also increase accuracy. Further, it should also be noted that CAD promotes efficiency in manufacturing processes and could come in handy in efforts to cut design-associated costs. However, computer breakdowns and or malicious attacks could affect work processes owing to the fact that CAD largely relies on computer systems that are prone to the said breakdowns and malicious attacks.

Also, in some instances, the initial acquisition cost of CAD systems could be prohibitive (Elangovan, 2019).One other technology used in manufacturing is what is referred to as automated manufacturing planning and control systems. These has been described by XXXX () as “computer-based information systems that help plan, schedule, and monitor a manufacturing operation” (189). One benefit of this technology happens to be reduction in production time. Yet another advantage of automated manufacturing planning and control systems, as Elangovan (2019) observes, is decreased labor costs. However, automated manufacturing planning and control systems lack the versatility that could be associated with human manpower. Further, like is the case with CAD, automated manufacturing planning and control systems have also been associated with a high initial acquisition cost – especially in complex manufacturing environments (Elangovan, 2019)......
