A fifth point is that the Department of Defense can and should use data such as this to create future programs for the psychological services rendered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Therefore, the results of the current study cannot be extrapolated to the general population. The study does examine the effectiveness of one type of treatment intervention for PTSD, however. Because PTSD does occur in the general population and can be a response to any stressor, it is likely that future research could reveal ways that the EMDR intervention can be used in a non-military patient population. The research design ensures internal validity, which means that the results of the findings can be trusted to be free of any researcher error. The methods employed have validity, because the results reveal the effectiveness of the training program and not of the EMDR treatment in and of itself.

3.Evaluate the worthiness of the study. Discuss the value in systematically studying the topic, rather than relying on common sense. Determine whether it would it be appropriate to fund this research with publicly-funded grants.
