Secretary of the United Nations

Since 1946, many international organizations, like the United Nation, have been involved in bringing peace and stability in different parts of the world experiencing instabilities. Reasons such as poor policies, ineffective legal procedures, economic and political schemes, and religious disagreements contribute to instabilities (Rhoads 2016, p. 54). There are growing levels of terrorism, conflicts, and the toppling of regimes in the Middle East and parts of Africa today. For the last five years, evidence shows that at least one or more countries in every continent have experienced an increase in the short-term political risks. Governments are the mainstream in leading them. In particular, they are asserting control measures over natural resources as uprisings try to overthrow regimes and take control of them. Foreign investors are being expropriated amidst selfish interests from local individuals and political movements. Thus, political instabilities have continually remained as part of global problems today. However, they can be managed significantly with integrated methods that apply to every setting of the instabilities.

In some African countries, political interests have been exaggerated by leadership and governance that is resistant to change. Although leaders will resist change for the betterment of their political stabilities and national interests, instabilities will be warranted in different parts of the world. Some leaders hold on to power for the opinions and views of others, leading to political instability. Change of leadership warrants new dispensations, most of which are choreographed by the majority of the populace. It is easy for a country to plunge into a political instability when a president or any leader refuses to step down the power ranks when the time of legitimacy is over. Many countries in Asia and Africa have suffered these consequences and continually experiences political instabilities, because of their leaders being in power even when the official time has lapsed. Today, Syria is experiencing fierce political instabilities because of the current president not accepting to step down for the sake of call by the common majority. People enter into a state of rivalry and war with those supporting defiant leader, leading to unending political unrests.

Political instability remains a major global issue due to the presence of high levels of prejudice in different countries. Hatred is a major force that has divided people internally within a country and it will always be there if necessary measures are not formulated and implemented. In many African countries, worst forms of prejudice have led to deadly political happenings, most of which cannot be controlled with ease. For example, Kenya, in 2007, experienced political instabilities because of the internal prejudice from among the natives, resulting from a political impropriation (Rhoads 2016, pp. 21). These have been scaled on various biases including racial, political, social, cultural, and religious bases.

As long as these prejudices continue to have roots in people, political unrests will continually become a global concern (Iqbal and Harvey 2016, pp. 54-76).

A larger extent of political instabilities in the world today arises from misuse and deprivation of people's rights and freedoms. In most cases, these arise because of the governments and groups trampling upon the rights and freedoms of others. In Syria alone, the rights and freedoms of people have been completely depleted. People are trying to fight back to regain them for their individual stability and that of the country. In many middle east countries, individual freedom, and rights, including those of women, children, and even religious groups and movements, have been overshadowed and disrespected, leading people to enter into states of political unrests. In Somalia and Nigeria alone, individual rights and freedoms of citizens have led to the emergence of militia groups seeking for retaliations and hence committing other unrealistic activities comprising of unrests. Unrests will never end as long as the rights and freedoms of people are not protected.

One major cause of political unrests, which has unsettled peace and progression of political existence in almost every country in the world, is poor governance leading to corruption and mismanagement of the wealth of the public. It is highly unlikely that stability will be in any country that experiences massive and even minimal cases of corruption. Globally, corruption has led to internal disputes and conflicts, most of which have put the countries in a state of imbalance. Corrupt leadership is fought with all means. Corruption is perpetuated both internally and externally. As a result, the participating forces will always pretend to fight to eradicate corruption, yet always doing it from the background. Corruption is one major reason political instabilities are rampant in the world today. Corruption is a threat to any major and minor economy. Even economies like that of China and Germany are threatened by corruption. Strong political stabilities like those experienced in different countries in the world can experience a collapse simply because of it. Therefore, it is important to control every likely pathway to corruption as a way of eradicating political imbalances in any society.

Developed and developing economies and political movements face the threat of instability arising from biased political processes and management systems. When elections are not free and fair, political instabilities ensue. Unfair elections that are characterized by the rigging of votes besides intimidations before and during elections are clear recipes for violence and disputes that lead to political instabilities. An election that is not fair and free becomes a cause for political instability in any country globally. Some countries today face the wrath of political instabilities because….....
