Introduction
There is much to be said about the achievement gap. Indeed, there is an alarming chasm between top performers and many others that are further down the scoring and achievement spectrum. The most disturbing part of the problem is that the gaps are often along income, racial and other pronounced socioeconomic lines. As with any other problem, there are possible interventions that can be used to curtail and prevent this problem from getting larger and harder to manage. The interventions that were sought and found for this literature review were found in academic databases such as EBSCO. As… Continue Reading...
Diagnosing the Problem
As Palardy (2015) shows, first grade is where the achievement gap begins to develop among students. Ferrer et al. (2015) show that the achievement gap begins in first grade and persists well into adolescence: in order to address the achievement gap, the best step is to take preventive measures. This action research study plans to address the problem of the achievement gap by getting first graders to focus on reading and get them interested in reading by following the recommendation of Moses and Kelly (2018), which is to condition young learners to love reading by continuously promoting it in… Continue Reading...
Action plan: Closing the achievement gap of African American students
Background
Based on statistics, the performance of African American students in public schools is way too dismal compared to their peers. In addition, there is a clear difference in the number of African American students graduating from high school. The need to address the education gap and improve on the performance and by extension the graduation rates of African Americans has the potential to improve the society in general (Washington State Library, 2008).

Despite the expectation for uniform performance, statistics show… Continue Reading...
the individual to become a good citizen (Levinson, 2009). The achievement gap in public schools between whites and non-whites, or more realistically between the wealthy and the poor is meted out at the ballot box. Those students from underprivileged backgrounds with underclass status feel civically disempowered; they are therefore less likely to be active participants in the democracy. Just as their scholastic performance lags behind that of their peers, these students' civic performance and political education also lags behind. Instead of allowing these students to perpetuate the cycle of disempowerment, educators need to create a student body filled with good… Continue Reading...
The achievement gap is a problem for many younger learners that appears to be impacted by racial and socio-economic factors (Harackiewicz, Canning, Tibbetts, Priniski & Hyde, 2016). However, social psychology interventions can be applied to help reverse the negative impacts of these factors and instill confidence in young students on the wrong end of the achievement gap (Spitzer & Aronson, 2015; Yeager & Walton, 2011). This paper will describe an intervention to address the problem of the achievement gap so as to assist in closing it.
The problem of the achievement… Continue Reading...
District and private investment is obtained to help develop programs that can assist in closing the achievement gap. DC is thus better structured and its school funding approach better supported to achieve success over the long run.

School Funding Investigation:
Comparing and Contrasting Illinois and Washington, D.C.
Introduction
Funding for schools is a controversial topic for many mainly because of the lack of discernible equitability evident throughout the system. This paper takes a close look at two school systems in particular—the Illinois state school system and the Washington, D.C., school system to see how they approach the issue of school… Continue Reading...
values, and socioeconomic status is provided. In my school, young people need assistance closing the achievement gap and our educators aim to facilitate that process by focusing on promoting reading, writing and arithmetic skills.
Image of the Learner
All students are different and therefore learn in their own ways. Montessori taught that students should be allowed to set their own pace. Active learning has also been identified as a way for deep learning to transpire. Some students benefit from visual learning, others from demonstrations, others from lectures. Students should be active participants in the learning process so that they can take ownership of their education.… Continue Reading...
up in poverty suffer also from an achievement gap that stems from inequity in education (Balfanz and Byrnes; District of Columbia Public Schools). As a result, the larger economy suffers as well. Companies cannot grow as well as they might like because they do not have access to sufficient talent. When families grow up in poverty, the entire nation is limited, as a country is only as strong as its weakest members.
As Pogge points out, poverty is also an injustice. It is perpetuated as a part of the scheme concocted by the ruling class to separate… Continue Reading...
achievement gap in the U.S. because they simply cannot keep up with what their English-speaking classmates are doing. To give support to the immigrant students, schools attempt to close the achievement gap by spending more time and money on meeting their needs. This causes the other students to be neglected. The end result is a mish-mash of education where no standards are being met and the entire population suffers. Compared to other educational standards around the world, the U.S. ranks pretty low (Desilver, 2017).

goal set, it should seem that dual credit programs would be reducing the educational achievement gap. After all, dual credit programs by definition allow all students the opportunity to potentially shorten the amount of time they spend in college, thereby reducing their tuition fees that enable the completion of a degree program. Yet recent research shows that college enrollment and completion gaps may be getting wider, based both on ethnicity and on socioeconomic class (Gewertz, 2017). The results of the RAND study reported by Gewertz (2017) may not be applicable specifically to the state of Hawaii, and yet educational attainment disparities do continue to… Continue Reading...

the diversion of funds to critical services such as early childhood education and equal access to preschool. Closing the achievement gaps means providing all children with equitable access to preschool, and offering all parents equal access to childcare opportunities that help ultimately reduce educational disparities. By reducing disparities early in a child’s life, we can collectively create a more egalitarian society.

The United States Department of Education is a natural first stop for an online field trip. The No Child Left Behind Act was imperfect but deserves recognition as an important step towards recognizing the needs of all children in the country. This analysis is good… Continue Reading...
the problems in education and the achievement gap to the economic problems that seem to have been hanging over the nation since 2008, the policy of R2P is one that most Americans do not think much about—and yet it has a tremendous impact on their lives and on the resources of this country. For one thing, many Americans would like to see universal health care in the U.S.—yet when it comes to the problem of who is to pay for it, they cannot say. No one wants to see taxes raised. Yet what if a program… Continue Reading...
