Deep Dive Project AnalysisIssues the Project FacedSome of the issues faced by the project in installing a museum off the coast of the Canary Islands included the ecological requirements and significant cost put into the project. Time was of the essence as well, and when the project team ran into a problem like how to avoid an electric cable near the site of excavation it had to get creative because there simply was no other option (Parsi, 2017). Another issue they had was how to support the aquatic life in the sea. Supporting an environment in which the team could actually be creative and feel confident in finding new solutions to unexpected problems was really important in managing the project. It was how the team arrived at the solution of turning concrete sculptures into a reef to support sea life (Parsi, 2017). Everyone was treated like a stakeholder and a collaborator in the project, from the locals to those doing the diving (Parsi, 2017). This sense of camaraderie ensured that all participants felt valued and could make valuable contributions. As Larson and Gray (2017) point out, supporting creative teams can best be done by being open to others and not feeling threatened by their ideas and suggestions no matter how bold they may be. Consideration is of the essence, and it is careful consideration that helped this team overcome the ecological issues it faced. The team’s actions that made them adept at facing these issues were indeed the harmonious ways in which all collaborated. Good project teams are those that are prepared to face unexpected issues and challenges because they are tight-knit and understanding. Being understanding does require team members to have the right social and emotional skills, knowledge and attitudes (Druskat & Druskat, 2006). They must be able to work together harmoniously and be willing to take on new tasks as they arise. Good communication is also essential, so that team members can keep each other informed of developments and share ideas freely (Henderson, 2008). The project team working on the dive installation had no problem communicating ideas with members and with stakeholders: from the outset, the team recognized that everyone should be involved in shaping the project—so the team entered into the project with the right attitude and perspective.

…electric grid. The team worked through these constraints with care and consideration. It invited concerned stakeholders to a public meeting so that voices could be heard and ideas and concerns shared. It researched what was needed for the location to fit the purpose, and it was careful about choosing a site in which ecological life would not be harmed. Finally, with the right site chosen, it had to figure out how to install the pieces without disturbing the existing electric grid, which it did through creative problem-solving.What the Case Says about Building a High Performance TeamWhat this case says about building a high performance team and the selection of the right team members to complete a project initiative is that every team needs to consist of bright, energetic team players who can think creatively and collaborate well with stakeholders.
