Some Americans were dissatisfied with the explanations and "No Blood for Oil" became a rallying cry for domestic opponents of the war. After a sober January debate, the Senate finally voted 52-47, and the House 250-183, to authorize the President to use force (Persian Gulf War, 1990-1991).


The Persian Gulf War was not another Viet Nam. The opposition was not as great, nor was the support for the administration's actions unanimous. The political reality was that we had a despotic ruler to eliminate and, together, both domestically and internationally, it was done.
