Born in Poland, Pope John Paul II has led the Roman Catholic Church for 26 years. A leader whose death brought forth hundreds of thousands of people at St. Peter's square. This only testifies in itself the qualities which Pope John Paul II possessed. He fought a cultural war against communism and in the days when rogue units from Islam were acting against Christians, he came forward with a message of peace and tolerance. His leadership qualities were such that even the Muslims appreciated him for being the first pope to have visited a mosque and kissed their Holy Scripture, The Quran (Aftab Sabir).
He also took the same message of love, humanity and tolerance to the Hindus. Pope John Paul II was one of the greatest leaders man has come to know. "John Paul II received continual praise for his magnificent moral leadership in troubled times" (Br Scott Murphy). In 1981, he was shot not once but four times while he was there to bless the people gathered at St. Peter's Square. A Turkish citizen was arrested and the leader, who brought with himself the message of forgiveness, forgave the assassin.
